I certainly may be wrong, but I do not see that “firefight“ as having been motivated primarily by fear. I saw trust and comradeship. A team that it worked together for years.
If one of your buddies opens fire, you just accept that he saw something that needs to be shot, and you join in.
But it HAS been a few years since i last saw the film.

agreed. hence my introduction to him of the cinephile life.
sometimes i push him a little too much. we watched Michael Clayton a few weeks ago and it went over his head. in hindsight, that's a boring movie for a 16 YO, whereas i find it gripping for the entirety. But he also loved Grand Budapest and Arrival, so it's not a slowness thing. he did like it after it was just Dutch vs. the Predator.
he took a film studies class last year and watched a few older ones (sunset strip, citizen kane, etc.)
that being said... he goes to a christian private school so while they didn't just go with PG movies for the class, their introduction to non-Marvel movies was a bit limited.
i will give his teacher credit, she did get him interested in a lot of different types of film making and i don't have to talk him in to too many movies these days, he's always interested in something new.
It was a true joy to watch the Prestige (on the list of movies he had to watch) with somebody for the first time and see them go through all the experiences i did 10+ years ago.
