Possession (1981) - Underrated Horror Masterpiece

I brought this movie up on another thread about WTF movies. And while reading Midsommar thread I decided I really have to make this post and praise the hell out of this movie.
Possession is pretty much everything that Midsommar was trying to be but better in every way. The movie is essentially about losing the person you love, and the pain you feel during a breakup. The movie is centered around a married couple during their separation. Every conversation they have leads to a fight and gets more and more violent with each altercation. The first half of the film is pretty much the husband (Sam Neil) becoming increasingly paranoid as his wife is cheating on him with another man, and his obsession of finding out who she is cheating on him with. The second half of this movie goes in a direction that I could not have guessed in a million years. I don't want to explain any further, but it gets really really weird.
The acting is top notch. The couple arguing scenes are very good as both actors really go all in, and their violent outbursts at each other that could only come from people who once loved each other. Midsommar I did not care for at all even though though I loved the premise of a horror movie centered around a breakup. This movie takes that premise and runs a marathon with it. Check it out.

isn't this one of those movies that fricked up the actor mentally? and didn't it get banned with almost 0 gore?

Yes. The tunnel scene was a legit meltdown the actress had o camera. The violence on screen is very tame. But the weird sexual aspect.....oooof I’m getting goosebumps just thinking about it.

It's on Kodi. And for the record in 2019 no movie is impossible to watch.

This is a great, very disturbing film. At one time you could watch it on YouTube but I'm not sure if it's available there anymore. The writer/director wrote this film about the breakup of his marriage and the emotional carnage done to his life as a result.
One warning if you are looking to download or purchase this movie. The US cut of the film is about 80-90 minutes and is severely edited and ruined. Do not watch that one. The uncut film is 118 minutes. That's the one you want.

I read the plot synopsis and holy mother of god it sounds fricked up, though a lot more interesting than Midsommar

Also I’m very slow. I just put together how much of Suspiria 2018 was inspired by this movie (Berlin wall is a dead giveaway)
