I disagree on Slumdog. I thought it was great. The rest I agree with. Some were just poor. Spotlight was good, but not Oscar worthy.

I agree about Slumdog. I thought it was a well done movie. Spotlight had a killer 1st and 2nd act, and was good, but it wasn’t the best picture that year IMO.

Idk if it's just me, but from what I remember, this board I think shite on Green Book, but I thought that movie was really really great. Very well written movie and I thought Viggo and Mahershala has great chemistry.

interesting to me that you'd find Spotlight and Slumdog boring and like Green Book
I think Spotlight is a great movie about journalism and investigative reporting something that has been sadly lost it does not go off the rails into activism imo, 2nd only to All the Presidents Men, it unfolds like mystery, it is well written and i think the cast is great, even with Keaton's faux Boston accent
Slumdog i get more why some don't like it, it is rather hokey and predicable and i don't know how realistic the portrayal of slum life in India was (if anything i wouldn't be surprised if its worse) but it was something i've never seen before so different and i thought fun.

The Academy isn't looking for which movie did you or the general public like the best. They are looking for great performances, things that make a film unique, stories that haven't yet been told, etc. They are looking for all those things. Most winners wouldn't have been winners if it was based on what movie the public (or you) like the most.
