Parks and Rec. I have this discussion with friends frequently.

I feel like Parks moved so far away from having a straight man that it just became an over the top comedy. Albeit it was a damn good comedy and a top 5 show for me all time. The Office always seemed to stay grounded and real and just hit you on a deeper more emotional level. It pulled more out of the viewer than a simple comedy could.

The Office is better than Parks and Rec. But that argument is like arguing which LSU National Championship team was better, they are still in an elite category.

From a character perspective the two shows are opposites. The office started off with quirky lovable characters that grew into terrible people that you rooted against. Parks started with a bunch of random mean and self absorbed people that grew into fully developed characters that were easy to pull for.

P&R had flashes of brilliance: Jean Ralphio, Chris Traeger and his quirks. Ann Perkins because Rashida. Office more consistent.

You could maybe say this for Pam and Andy, but the other characters not so much.

The problem is that when Steve Carell left the show, the writers really struggled to fill the void left by Michael Scott. Andy was not the right choice, as he was a better supporting character.

After Jim and Pam's arch, they shifted Pam's role from cute receptionist, to selfish bitch. Instead of being able to fondly relate to Jim's poor timing with his crush on Pam, you then begin to resent Pam's attitude towards everything Jim is trying to do for them.

They are able to right the ship in the final season, but the Sabre years were very hit or miss.

Honestly close for me. At its funniest the Office was better. The episode when they had Holly convinced Kevin was "special" was solid gold comedy.

Both were solid, I'd have to give the slightest edge to the Office.

That's why I quit watching. #NotMyOffice

Peak Office (Season 2-4) were events. Parks and Rec was always funny and consistent, but nothing close to the best of the Office.

P&R was not consistent or always funny. The last few years were really bad. It really only has a couple of good years.

The latter seasons of Park and Rec were >> the last few seasons of the Office. Office Season 1-4.5 were the better than the best of Parks and Rec.
