He was working at frickING CINNABON though, and this is not a coincidence.

It's not like the Cinnabon Corporation will be thrilled with the narrative that the main character has been reduced to having to work a shite job like that. It doesn't cast Cinnabon in a particularly positive light. It makes Saul look like he has no other options. Many viewers like me watched the premiere and thought, "Damn, he actually is working in a fricking Cinnabon. How shitty."

Besides, you can't effectively show what Saul has been reduced to with a fictional restaurant chain. This makes it feel real.

lol, you're just a pathetic fanboy that can't fathom that ol' boy Vince sold out. Watch that first episode again and tell me with a straight face there isn't any product placement. It was blatant and cringeworthy.

Yeah, Vince really made Cinnabon seem like an awesome place to work. Saul was spending his nights drinking and sobbing himself to sleep while watching videos of the "good old days" of his life as an ambulance chaser/legal fixer.

quote:

You would think Saul would have squirreled away enough dough to just lay low instead of having to make cinnamon rolls.

Yeah, I never got why it was necessary for him to have a "job".

At the very least, New Identity Guy couldn't have hooked him up with a bartending job in the Caribbean or something? For all the money his clients pay, he really hooks them up with real shitty new "lives".

Yeah, but did you see how happy those frickers were that were eating those cinnamon rolls?

They are product placing their BRAND. The show is set 13 years ago, it's not like they can just throw a 2015 model in the scene. Are you really this dense?

This isn't surprising given the extremely gratuitous nature of the product placement in this show. It's like they aren't even trying. The opening scene of episode 1 of the show was a 10 minute cinnabon commercial.

Who gives a shite? It was a callback to a comment Saul makes in BB. Did it really negatively affect your viewing experience?

Did I ever say that it did? It isn't going to stop me from watching (and enjoying) the show, but please don't deny that there is blatant product placement. Maybe they are placing everything gracefully enough that it doesn't seem obvious to the average viewer.

There is nothing blatant in this show. You may need a new dictionary.

Who would have thought that the spin-off from arguably the best ever show to grace the small screen is leveraging its popularity and benefiting by very carefully placing product placement ads that tie in to it's parent show.

Who would of thought people would be denying that it is happening? A 5 second shot of a bottle of dewars is blatant. A 10 minute scene inside of a cinnabon where the company logo is in your face the entire time is also blatant. Some of the other stuff is more subtle.

I feel you on the blatant placement of that, but as has been stated here, that was to immediately establish the link to Breaking Bad.

Now that said, they didn't have to use the logo at all, I'm pretty sure if you just show Saul in a disguise, working at "generic cinnamon roll franchise" everyone would immediately know that cinnabon was implied.

So I get your stance, and I would dismiss it entirely , if they didn't show the labels of both liquors used in the rusty nail, another moment they could have used generic liquor bottles and still got the point across.

The Cadillac and any use of cars though, is a strech.

Donnie baseball will not get ejected without kicking a little dirt on you: Do you think they got the mention for free in Breaking Bad? This is merely continuation of the past deal, which they undoubtedly paid for.

So they needed to shoot this scene for continuity of the series. I guarantee you the fact that he got a job at cinnabon to begin with was NOT a coincidence.

Read the quote again:

Also ETA:

Also from the link:
quote:

"I just wrote that scene and it sounded funny, but it never occurred to me in a million years that we'd actually show what we show at the beginning of episode 1," says Bad writer and Saul co-creator Peter Gould. "Of course, you could always give yourself the out, like, 'He's just speculating; he could end up anywhere.' But there was something so darkly delightful and so much fun about actually seeing his words realized, that we found it hard to resist."
I think that you'll just have to admit they didn't "leverage" anything with Cinnabon

Putting my tin foil hat back on now...

Doesn't that sound exactly like something a savvy marketing director for a large corporation would say?

Well, in that case, they are total morons.

There was plenty of other placement too, all of the booze he was drinking, as someone else mentioned, the cars, there is probably more that I didn't even notice.

yea TV shows need to make money and the "product placement" as you call it really adds to the realism of the show, after all why would the cars being driven not have the manufacturer logos on them?

Geeseus keerist dude, relax and enjoy the dam show, or if you're a capitalist hating commie then fuk off, don't really care.
