I just don't think the girls have it this year. Really, the girls didn't bring it last year either. You'll see another guy with the competition this year.

you want to be original, girls - sing a male song and guys - sing a female song, that way the judges can't say you sound just like the original

Simon is exactly right - if you want to win American Idol, you either have to have an AMAZING voice or you have to be original in your performances.
None of the girls tonight have shown they're in the same league as Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood, and they're all doing very safe karaoke songs.

kris allen showed it last year. you take something not pop and sing it pop and that will make it original...Kanye West's Heartless.
And for the girls, like i said, all they have to is pick a guy's song and it automatically becomes original
