The producers told all the contestants when they gave them American Idol specific accounts that they should stay away from political or religious themed messages in their tweets. Colton, as well as many of the other contestants like Hollie, jessica and elise to name a few, already had a personal twitter accounts before the idol specific one was given and they were told to only use the idol one for the rest of their time on the show. Colton's personal twitter was full of bible passages, Christian related messages and all. The producer's message about avoiding political and religious tweets was definitely directed to him.
Colton posted a few messages in the beginning of the idol account that were Christian related. He ended up getting a lot of positive and negative feedback. He laid back because about a month ago, the idol producers warned him again about the Christian tweets and how it may alienate some people. He then began just retweeting Christian messages, prayers and bible quotes that were sent to him instead of directly posting his own. I read somewhere that idol may have deleted a lot of the religious themed posts on his account.

I'm not saying that this is what made him lose votes and caused him to go home already but I found it interesting that he was warned a few times by idol producers about the content of his messages. It may have alienated some voters. But his outfits and really poor performances this past week are definitely more to blame for going home than some religious tweets. I just found it interesting.
