Going in, I felt Avatar was a Best Pictrue lock, but now I have doubts. It's feeling like a Hurt Locket upset. Which would be awesome.
I'm in the uncomfortable position of rooting for Tarantino, though.

Why are you rooting for Tarantino?

Because I thought Inglorious Batserds was the only great movie of the year. I think it deserves to win, though it won't. And after a decade of essentially pissing away his talent, I'm stunned Tarantino made a good movie again.

Has District 9 won anything tonight? I personally thought it was the best film (or at least of the ones that are nominated) of the year. It would be unfortunate if they walk away empty-handed tonight.

I'm calling it now, The Cove wins it!!!!

Nope. District 9 is getting killed in the technical awards by Avatar and Hurt Locker. I liked D9, but I didn't love it. We went to the AMC Best Picture showcase, and got to see 5 of the nominees in one sitting (we decided to only do one weekend). District 9 really suffered in comparison to Up, An Education, Hurt Locker, and A Serious Man.

You liked Inglorious Bastards more than District 9 and Up? This is coming from a biased point of view since I'm tired of holocaust film but I thought Inglorious Bastards was just a decent film, a notch below the other two. Some scenes like the Tavern scene was spectacular. Other scenes fell flat and the ending really dragged down the quality of the film in my eyes.

I could live with Hurt Locker winning best picture. It's not my favorite choice but it's certainly much better than Avatar winning best picture.
