I get my movies off of graboid. I have a membership with them and the speed and quality they offer is remarkable.

this is it right here, and i don't think they have this answer!
its about the quality. they actually WANT you to hear the music and even 'own' bootlegs/tapes so that you burn with the desire to have the 'real thing'
the internet blew that up. 1s and 0s are 1s and 0s. now the copy is not only flawless..but in the case of FLAC files, the audiophile/grassroot pent-up demand has resulted in these torrent sites who have
a. far superior quality (FLAC and no DRM shite headaches)
b. better cataloging (holy shite..between discographies, rareties, compilations, lyrics and background wikis, collages of related metadata, private music trackers provide pure heaven/magic for the hardcore fans)
c. easier access
that scares the shite out of them which it should. the private trackers are doing a frick-better job of appealling to music-philes by giving them a much much MUCH better experience at following their favorite musicians. its not all about the downloads..its about the organization and throughness of these collections which the riaa
WILL
NEVER
DO.

but give me access to the GOOD STUFF for a $x/mo and i'll be an honest man.
Zune is $14.95 a month and you can download and get license to listen to anything on their site. I have thousands of songs from them on my Zune player but as soon as I quit paying the $14.95 a month it all goes away.

right, thats a step in the right direction.
but still, it pales in comparison to what (pun intended) you can experience on the sites that catalog *EVERYTHING* by an artists (bootlegs, lyrics, collages, similar artists, forums, etc.) that make those sites pure magic.
its really amazing how much more robust and well maintained these are..even the most obscure artists get incredibly detailed treatment.
eta take 'dark side of the moon' for instance..i think there's about 59 different mastering copies of that on the site i'm thinking about. its completely insane and for true audiophiles..its like dying and going to heaven.
