Another pet peeve of mine….

Why don’t people close doors after walking in to them in movies and tv?

Haha same. I did this just the other day when I went to see F1.

ETA: I completely misread this thread. I thought you were referring to the actual theater doors being left open while watching a movie lol. My theater does this all the time and sound from other movies creeps in.

Because it conveys tension, isolation, and closes the scene. Lots of scenes where someone is about to get killed or have something bad happen will have the door being closed.

I think it's one of those real life things that doesnt transfer well to the screen unless it has an explicit use. Same thing with rooms typically being clean or no one actually eating their food at a meal.

My best guess, other than to be intentionally annoying to keep viewers’ ‘engaged’ is lazy directing & writing, multiple takes which then stuff like that gets overlooked.

The “it’s just a movie” excuse fails if the goal is to reel the audience into a story.

Similarly, folks often do not end a phone call verbally. They just hang up.
