So you agree that these are definitely better than The Avengers.
No, I don't. FWIW, My friends and I LOL at how bad Spidey 2 was in the theater, baked out of my mind and knew the franchise was doomed. TDK is smaller in scale, but it has made Bruce Wayne into sort of dumbass.

The Watchmen was campy, except when The Comedian was killing hippies and Zach Snyder is to superhero movies as early Image is to comics.

Has anyone mentioned that this movie had absolutely no atmosphere?
not really. it wasn't serious so i didn't expect this

Nor did it cause any tension in the viewer?

And yes it does that better than X-Men First Class and the Dark Knight. It may not be a better "film" but it is a better comic book movie.
i've asked what it's real competition is, then
it seems any movie with complex themes and conflicted heroes, with a bit of seriousness, don't count

There's a difference between enjoying a film and understanding a film's greatness. Clearly you can't do the latter without the former. And that's ok.
I enjoyed The Avengers. I just don't think it's great. Clearly you can't accept another person's opinion without being condescending. And that's ok.

The Avengers ISN'T trying to be the Godfather. Or Inception. Or TGTBTU. Or any other film. It isn't trying to win an Oscar, or create some ultimately complex character like Atticus Finch on screen. I think the people not liking that are thinking that. It's not an empty vacuous piece of cinema like Avatar.
I did not go into this film thinking it was going to be the godfather. In fact, I had curbed my enthusiasm for the film due to the fact that I never enjoyed a film with an ensemble cast. Let me say that I love a good popcorn flick, and again, I LIKED this movie. But god forbid I should ever say that I did not LOVE it and that it was not great.

It's about bringing comic books to the screen. And yes it does that better than X-Men First Class and the Dark Knight. It may not be a better "film" but it is a better comic book movie.
Explain to me again how a movie is not better than another, but is a better one of its genre.

I really dislike the first Spiderman and didn't catch the second till years after it was released. Didn't like it either.
And TDK, I see where you are coming from. It's the only Batman movie I can think of where Batman doesn't seem like the hero. Nothing about his character in that film is heroic. It's just some guy thrown into the film to take up space.
Maybe that's my biggest problem with the movie. I don't know, I have a lot.

well while i get that professor x is flat (and he's kind of like cap in that optimistic and unflinching way, and i'm not a huge fan), i don't think you can honestly compare the acting in avengers to that in first class. first class has possibly the best acting in any movie with comic book characters (i won't say actors b/c TDK has bale, oldman, eckhart, and of course ledger)

Did you think Batman was going to die or lose in TDK?
Fear that Superman was going down?
Since Wolverine can't be killed, there is no tension in his films(which suck)
FC was a prequel, did you think they were going to die on that beach?
Did you think Spider-man wouldnt win in the end?

So we should all get high before watching a movie to judge its greatness.

Come on man... seriously

in many ways, he did lose
at the end of the movie he's running, blamed for killing harvey dent. due to his failures, rachel and harvey are dead
the great, uncorruptable harvey dent, the new symbol for the new hero of gotham, not only died, but he was turned prior to death

well prof x "lost" magneto and mystique (we all knew that it was going to happen only b/c we already know the myth). he didn't achieve all of his goals. in fact, he led to help creating his most powerful mutant foe

other than the guy on the left, name me a good memorable performance and no Jenifer Lawerence wasn't great. Kevin Bacon was hammy and oh yeah
January Jones performance was one of the worst jobs in the medium. So that's out.

Nothing wrong with comedies, but that doesn't mean I want all my favorite super hero movies to be comedies.

The thing I don't like about X-Men, is the fact they are all over the place. You have the first three, and then you go back and have two prequels?
I personally enjoyed Origins more than FC. By the time FC came I was kinda tired of it.

they rebooted it, like what they did with the hulk in the incredible hulk (and what they're doing with spider-man/superman...and what they will do with batman in a few years)

No. I specifically said, you didn't like the film, and that's ok. Can you read? You also jumped in when my original response was to SFP.

Dude, no one cares whether you love it or not. Again, wasn't responding to you.
But YOU, not me, are making declarations like it's a fact. This movie has "no atmosphere." Which again, is quite an exaggeration.

You really think TDK is a comic book movie? The conversation ends there.
It's inspired by one, but in no way is meant to be one. it's primarily a crime drama not a comic book film.

Good scene. But the more enjoyable for me was the Tony Stark/Loki dialogue before the final action sequence.
Stark laying out the options for Loki, and Loki not taking him seriously. RDJ nailed that scene.

The flat Xavier? The scene in the Hellcarrier's Lab with all the main players in it was twice as good.
Like I said, the only enjoybale part of FC was Fassenbender was killing Nazis in a bar.
and dont ingnore the rest of the terrible performances in FC.
