Reeling from the unexpected death of her husband, Beth (Rebecca Hall) is left alone in the lakeside home he built for her. She tries as best she can to keep together-but then the dreams come. Disturbing visions of a presence in the house call to her, beckoning with a ghostly allure. But the harsh light of day washes away any proof of a haunting. Against the advice of her friends, she begins digging into his belongings, yearning for answers.

This movie was a creepy mind frick. A few of the scenes really spooked me. Spoilers>>>>

I couldn't decide if what she was experiencing was real, or if she was in a drunken, delusional, psychotic episode to try and cope with a cheating, secretly depressed husband that ended his life. Most of what happened was only seen/experienced by her.

The only thing that I can think of is the weird voodoo doll which was seen by her teacher friend and the neighbor. Some people might say that it wasn't ambiguous and that there was really a demon, and her husband really killed women in order to protect her, but I can see good arguments for both. What says the movie/tv board?

Had I watched it last year, it would have made my Top 10 for horror and likely my Top 5.

It was really good and glad it came to HBO Max. I recommend it.

Its definitely a slow burn, but that's really the only kind of horror that I like these days. To each his own.

I saw it when it came out in the theaters. At first I didn't think it was heading anywhere good, but it got better as it went along, and I thought it really stuck the landing.

I loved this movie.

But I really like horror that makes me feel so sad for the main character. I need to watch it again.

I took it literally. Beth said that when she had her near-death experience, she felt and saw "nothing." She also said she felt that something came back with her. If you recall, they called him "Nobody." Nobody wanted Beth back and her husband figured it out, so he created the Night House to confuse Nobody into thinking Beth was dead (because he kept murdering her lookalikes). Eventually her husband couldn't take it anymore and committed suicide. When he did, Nobody found Beth again.

The scene where she hugs Nobody thinking it's her husband and he says "I'm not Owen" was creepy as frick.

Well-crafted little horror movie. I regret not catching it in the theater.

A very well made film.

The camera tricks they did to make a human body form using everyday items and angles was very impressive
