Having said that, Idris Elba could be a fantastic Bond, but he's already pushing 50 - if they were in production now, would they get 2 or 3 movies out of him?
More likely is Ejiofor, who would also be an interesting choice. He's 43 this year - so, 5 or (just maybe) 6 might be possible, depending on how things shake out.
Obviously, I would prefer they cast the very best actor they can - regardless of race, but it isn't the end of the world if they cast for high ability along with their predetermined demographic novelty (which, again, is the height of silliness.)

Ewan Mcgregor is my second choice.
If they want a black guy, Idris Elba is probably the best choice even though he's already almost 50. Would've been much more ideal if he was cast 6-10 years ago.

The problem with this mentality is that it is "forced" or "decided" beforehand. Which is a example of our society today. By saying it will be a black guy before hand, you are just balancing numbers.
Hire the guy that will make the best Bond. If that guy happens to be black, hire his arse. If not, hire whoever is the best fit for the part that has been going on for 40 years.
Young, woke kids are not Bond fans. Older farts like me who have watched every Bond film at least 10 times are. Be careful how you force things.

He's older than I'd like but still has a handsome young looking face. I'd like Ethan Hunt to be younger too, but Tom Cruise can still pull it off so it's fine. I think Ewan can be like that too. Idris Elba already looked 50 when he started filming Luther. Ewan Mcgregor just looks younger so it's not the same.

I’m one of those who thinks that Elba could make a great Bond with a few rough edges.
