Streaming services didn't start producing original content until this decade. You're already seeing a massive decline in ticket sales that aren't either an animated film or an adaptation of a comic book property.

It's one of the reasons Martin Scorsese took The Irishman to Netflix. No other studio was willing to throw $100 million at him to make the movie. That's probably why he made those comments about comic book movies.

...and much like my original comment, you fell right in line with usual suspects. TV! Video tapes! Blockbuster! Redbox! Fancy TV's! DVD quality! Online streaming! Online services that are out of this world! Netflix original movies!

...it gets old, much like the idea of which type of natural climate issue will kill us in 7-12 years, we keep hearing about how the movie theaters are about to go away....yet there's not an actual issue at the movie theaters.

Yadda, yadda, yadda...

I heard Kevin Smith on the radio talking about his new movie and how they’re basically turning it into a tour where they release the movie in each city and do an appearance with it. I think that’s a really cool idea.

Believe it or not... that used to be something Hollywood did with "prestige" movies. They would trot them around for a few months for special showings to drum up interest and then release them worldwide.

The problem was that it only took a few stinkers to get this treatment for the cost to become prohibitive to the return.

The movie theaters will not be going away anytime soon. Nor did I argue that in my OP. Please re-read.

You would rather watch Infinity War etc on tv at home and not on an Imax Screen???
Depends on how crowded it is and what kind of crowd it is. Sometimes, it's not worth the gamble.

They definitely get more expensive than that. But yes, there’s plenty options under that price range

I feel as if movie studios will release their mega blockbusters in cinemas to maximize profits while smaller, more intimate films will be released online for streaming.

I think that would be a pretty good idea. Watched Marriage Story on Netflix the other night and I would not have gone to the theater to see that one. I wouldn’t even mind paying $4.99 or whatever to rent something like that if it was available at the same time of the limited theatrical release. But I’m not gonna go and spend the money to see that type of movie in a theater

Yea, got a nice bar and lounge set up. Good comfortable place to grab a drink and talk about the movie after it’s over. Which is great for the types of movies that are being talked about as being future candidates for immediate streaming; it’s a perfect setup for films like Three Billboards.

You can start with a decent meal during the pre-movie commercials, enjoy a good movie in comfort, then hop out and finish up the evening with a drink. Great setup for a date night.

TVs are cheaper than they’ve ever been...
You could get a more than serviceable 60” for under $500

Personally, adding on the experience of hearing 50 strangers eat while watching a movie is not an improvement.

I frequent an Alamo, as it is the most convenient theater near my home. I've never been able to hear strangers eating over the volume of the film.

Maybe its the clientele at Alamo, or even the specific clientele of the specific Alamo by my house, but people ordering stuff throughout the movie is rare. Most people still just order soda, candy, and popcorn
