The series, which was hosted by Robert Stack and ran for over 500 episodes between 1987 and 2010, is being refreshed by Stranger Things EP Shawn Levy and his company 21 Laps Entertainment and Netflix.

I hear that Levy is overseeing the revamp in association with Cosgrove-Meurer Productions, the original production company run by the show’s creators John Cosgrove and Terry Dunn Meurer. The latter will show run the series with Cosgrove, Levy and Josh Barry as exec producers. Robert Wise is co-exec producer and showrunner with Dunn Meurer.

The 12-part show will use re-enactments in a documentary format to profile real-life mysteries and unsolved crimes, lost love, cases involving missing persons and unexplained paranormal events. Each episode will focus on one mystery. In the original series, actors played the victims, criminals and witnesses but family members and police were regularly interviewed.

I don't know if it can recapture the magic without Robert Stack's voice

I remember watching (and loving) this show as a kid, but I can't remember any specific stories from it. That being said, it'll be tough to replace Stack

The baseketball scene is so damn funny!

They will have to do this with the correct narrator and of course the original music.

Does anyone remember the reboot with Dennis Farina aka “ray Bones” from get shorty. I love that guy ! However his hard Chicago accent did not fit and he just wasn’t the right guy.

Is Albert Finney working this days? Maybe Brian Cox? Some older elder statesman of actors that could sell the mystery.

Nobody can.

But I believe Morgan Freeman’s voice would be great for these kind of stories.

Stack is still alive-84. Pay him enough to host the show.

yep, it's just in time for my kids to get fricked up by like I was when I watched it as a 6 year old back in 1991. this one episode fricked up my ability to sleep peacefully for a good year or so.

shite you didn’t know about Unsolved Mysteries

quote:

In his first professional acting gig, Matthew McConaughey appeared as a (shirtless, of course) murder victim in an episode of Unsolved Mysteries. "They got the guy," the Academy Award winner told Entertainment Weekly in 2014. "They found him around Bryan, Texas, about two weeks after that show." Virginia Madsen also co-hosted the show with Stack in 1999. Curb Your Enthusiasm’s Cheryl Hines, MADtv’s Stephnie Weir, Saw’s Ned Bellamy, and Lost’s Daniel Dae Kim also appeared in episodes.

And I don’t know who would be a good host for the reboot. How about Michael C. Hall - a little Dexter vibe might be creepy enough.

Or maybe another Dexter alum, Geoff Pierson perhaps.

Dan Aykroyd did an entertaining Robert Stack impression.
