I really don't understand the angst with this news. I'm sorry, but the movie experience is changing. People aren't willing to spend $100 for a family of four to go see anything other than event films in the theater anymore. A lot of the movies Netflix produces are movies I'm perfectly fine watching on my 55" Roku UHD TV.

I think that is valid as well. Monopolies are not good, but my main concern is that a company like NF may push their agendas into more and more stuff rather than sitting back and making things entertaining. And of course, NF has made lots of stuff that isn't "woke" or anything like that, so I am not screaming from the mountaintops about woke bullshite. But they do tend to lean that way, and I prefer to not have that shite shoved into my entertainment outlets. It's similar to Disney...they were one of the gold standards for entertainment for the better part of a century, and now they have fallen pretty mightily and can't be counted on to just make good shite anymore.
But the bottom line is that if I know which way an entertainment company leans politically, that's bad. And with companies like Disney and NF, everyone knows their politics (intentionally, and by design from the companies themselves). I don't care if they agree with me politically or they don't...all I care about is the product. And when the product becomes tainted with stupid shite (be it woke, political, religious, or whatever else), it gets watered down and less interesting to me. So I hope that doesn't happen more now that NF owns WB.
ETA: And like someone said, there is a 0% chance NF won't increase prices fairly soon because of all of this.

I can tell you what will happen. The silicon valley bros are going to start feeding us shite and tell us we like it.
Warner's is still very talent friendly. They might try and develop a dozen projects at a time let's say and of those maybe 3 will pass muster and move on. But at least the other nine had a chance and people were getting paid.
Now, Netflix will pick what in their mind are 4 can't miss projects and move with those. Because they see the Warner's model I described above as hurting the margins. So instead of throwing 13 darts at the board they'll only throw 4 total.
If you can't see why that's terrible for the creative process then I don't know what to tell you. It's already hard AF to get something made these days. If this goes through? Lol. Mad men type shows will sit on someone's hard drive while Stranger Things spinoffs will get lauded as the finest shows ever made since Breaking Bad.

How do you always end up on the wrong side of these arguments? This is a huge L for anyone who still enjoys going to the movies and sitting in a theater with others and enjoying film.
If you don’t enjoy that, if you’re someone who enjoys watching the majority of movies on your TV while you scroll on your phone and miss half the movie, this is probably a dream come true for you. I don’t give a shite about James Gunn or this other bullshite. Monopolization of any industry is bullshite and less competition means shittier product. You think Hollywood sucks now? Just wait

Not just that, but this will end up affecting HBO, physical media, quality of content, not to mention how many folks will lose jobs. But at least he'll get to enjoy movies on his 55 inch

I think theaters will still be alive, but in basically the same iteration that they currently are (i.e. not thriving and perhaps more niche type stuff). But I do think that being able to watch new movies at home is a plus, at least for me. Not everyone wants to have to go to the theater just to watch the new movies. Some of the "spectacle" type movies? Sure, yeah. But most movies I'd prefer to watch at home or at least have access to if I don't want to hit the theater. So I don't think that's a bad thing at all.

Netflix Says Warner Bros. Movies Will Remain in Theaters but 'Windows Will Evolve to Be Much More Consumer Friendly'
Bad news. Signaling that they aren’t fully committing to theatrical release, probably on streaming much faster

Probably because I'm one of the people who no longer enjoys going to the movies and sitting in a theater with others and enjoying film. I don't feel like dropping $30 on a ticket and concessions when I can just sit on my couch and enjoy as many movies as I want for the same price.
The day movie theaters get cheaper is the day I go back to them.

Noooooo one talks about how much job cuts have affected the industry either. There have been a lot of "middle manager" types cut at the studios, especially the silicon valley owned ones. Those managers were the types who were reading 10-20 scripts a week and providing honest to God feedback on what was missing and what was needed to the writers and producers. Was it super deep and insightful? Not always but those guys, like the plant baws, knew how to get the sausage made. With them gone, you have literal children and yes men and Cartman type execs making those decisions without great guidance.
It's such a cluster. No wonder the really talented folks are going the self publishing route or the indy route. That's where the real innovation is going to come from going forward. Just really hard to get eyeballs or make a living that way.

I don't see why y'all think that is such bad news. Is it just because it will continue to lead to the theater experience dying off? Because that was already happening big time and that genie isn't ever going back into the bottle.
But having much faster access to theatrical releases is a great thing for consumers IMO.

For me, the concern is not the Supermans that'll still get a window. What about mid budget films? Or horror? We're going to get less content. We have plenty of evidence of that. Are we gonna see films like sinners and weapons now? I highly doubt it

This makes me sick.
Remember when we used to line up out the door and rush to the auditorium for things like TDK?
We’ll never get that type of cultural zeitgeist back

No, it isn’t. It’s killing the art
Netflix makes movies for streaming; they aren’t the same as a real movie
