I remember Blomkamp was in talks to do a Halo movie at one point that never came to fruition.

That's what led to District 9. They had all the project ready to film when the project sank, so he said "Hey, I have a movie idea we can film."
And that was D9.

Studio shooting itself in the dick and not wanting to pay for the better ideas.
It was serviceable but it makes little sense.

Elysium was decent sci-fi, if too happy of an ending.
Haven't had a chance to see chappie.

Since Sharlto Copley will need something to do, I'm hoping that Robocop and Kruger team up.

The idea of Sharlto Copley playing the villain is the main reason I'm excited for this.

I really enjoy all of Blomkamps movies, but the dude didnt really stick the landing in any of District 9, Elysium, and Chappie.

Blomkamp has a good eye for sci-fi visuals and world-building. This might turn out OK as long as they let him nowhere near the script.

Huge Robocop fan and Robocop 2 is one of my favorite sequels ever.
I liked Robocop 2 for the most part, except for the 14 year old kid as a foul-mouthed mob boss.

I think District 9 hit it right. Good sci-fi stories often end with questions of "What do we do?"
Christopher Johnson and his son got off-planet. I figure CJ was one of the few officers on the vessel to make it through whatever disabled the ship.
The majority of survivors were clearly an underclass of their species. But still CJs species.
Will the cure he comes back with just be terraforming earth with the goo Wikus got infected with?
It would be neat to see, but I'm content with the question.
Elysium just ends with everyone getting a robot. But we never had the detail on how much resources went into those cure all beds. So could be finite could be infinite, dunno.

“Verhoeven felt at the time that making one would be de classe and he wasn’t interested in the politics of a sequel, “Neumeier told Deadline. “Then, the writers strike came along in 1988 and we were force majeured off the project. They brought in Frank Miller on a waiver. He wrote a draft and then another with Walon Green, and it got made by Irvin Kershner, who directed The Empire Strikes Back. I went off and did Startship Troopers with Paul.”
Thank god that happened. Starship Troopers was one of my favorite movies of all time.
