CBS announces the first primetime special featuring comedian Nate Bargatze. Executive produced by Lorne Michaels and his company Broadway Video, this one-hour holiday-themed variety show will broadcast on the CBS Television Network in December 2024, and stream on Paramount+ (live and on-demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on-demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the special airs)*. The special’s title, air date and time will be announced at a later date.
“I’m extremely excited to be creating this special as I have long been a big fan of variety, and we don’t see enough of it! I want to make a great show for families to gather around and watch together and I couldn’t be in better hands than with this team,” said Bargatze.
Taped at the iconic Grand Ole Opry on Nov. 21, the holiday special will be anchored by Bargatze, who will serve as master of ceremonies, guiding audiences through a mix of stand-up comedy, pre-taped comedy shorts, sketches and musical performances. The show will shine a spotlight on the heart and spirit of Nashville during the holiday season, highlighting family, fun and feel-good moments that resonate with audiences of all ages. This marks Bargatze’s return to The Grand Ole Opry, where his journey in comedy began as an entry-level employee.
Bargatze will collaborate with “Saturday Night Live’s” Mikey Day and co-head writer Streeter Seidell, who previously joined forces with Bargatze when he hosted “SNL” last season on the wildly popular “Washington’s Dream” sketch.
The variety special will be executive produced by Lorne Michaels, Nate Bargatze, Erin David and Andrew Singer of Broadway Video, and Tim Sarkes & Alex Murray of Brillstein Entertainment.

Meh variety shows on broadcast networks are universally arse.
If you aren’t doing it on Comedy Central Chappelle’s Show style or at least Key and Peele style, it will be pretty bad.

Nate did great on SNL. I don't see why he can't do great in this type of show where he has more control. And it's not a series...just a one time show.
Comedy Central is pretty much irrelevant today. Which is sad, as it was my favorite channel for probably close to 20 years.

Was able to catch Nate on tour, and his father Stephen opened.
Turns out Stephen Bargatze has actually been a professional magician for decades. (If you've heard the bit about 'donkeys falling off high dives,' he mentions it.)
Guessing he'll make an appearance on the show in some form or fashion.

I was hoping his dad would show up for his latest tour stop in Huntsville because of the short distance, but he didn't.

A little off topic but, Nate Bargatze has been brought up a lot in work related conversations I’ve had recently. It’s been a bit odd.
I don’t know why exactly, but I’ve had four different conversations with people spread across the country that have mentioned unsolicited they saw Nate Bergatze perform at a work retreat, or a convention, or a church function in the past 4-5 years.
I thought he blew up a couple of years ago? I don’t know why so many people have discovered him recently, as in the past month, and thought, “Oh yeah, that’s the guy I saw perform at our company picnic in 2020.”

His 2022 Amazon Prime special was heavily promoted. It was featured on all Amazon fire stick Home Screen menus. I think that gave him a huge boost because it was the first I ever heard of him and was the first time I ever saw a thread about him on here. Then he got SNL and became a solid arena comic. He may have already been doing arenas so I could be off on that.
All his previous specials are very good too. He just needed more exposure IMO. Can’t wait for his next special. The donkey bit had me rolling!

Maybe it’s the “I saw so-and-so before he was big” hipster tendencies.
