Her mom had weight loss surgery too. It's obvious.

Her arms give it away.

I can’t tell if Brianne and her mother are tall women or if Rick is a petite man.

She was a really big woman. 742# to start.

My guess is she is one of his bigger (No pun intended) success stories. She was ready for skin removal at ten months. Never seen it that quick with someone that big to start.

Good for her but as a viewer these can be meh because she really stuck to it.

I think that's insulting to Gilbert Grape's mother.

I don't understand- if you're going to get weight loss surgery, why continue eating crap? You know you're going to have to lose weight. Why delay the inevitable?

This is the first episode ever that I have felt a little sorry for the main patient.

Eating is not meeting a physical (I'm hungry) or emotional (I want to feel good) need for most of these people; it is far beyond that, it's pathological.

They eat to prove that they are unworthy of love or respect. You decide that you are unloved or unworthy of love (often after abuse suffered in childhood), so you eat your way into a body that is unlovable. Unless that pathological line of thinking is broken, you will sabotage all attempts to treat yourself better.

A lot of it has to do with the modern conception of depression - that the patterns of neural transmission through our brains dictate emotion and behavior and vice versa, and therefore, people with mental illness literally have to retrain their own brains how to think.

What really ratchets up the hate meter is when patients are told all that and are given every possible resource available to make the lifestyle change but choose to wallow in their own misery for attention from their enablers, family, doctors, etc. Make no mistake you can still be both depressed and a selfish attention whore.

The last two episodes have been very successful. The 20 yr old was interesting to me more than the woman. A perfect example of becoming what you see. He was surrounded by people who ate all the time. He wasn't abused or any of these other things normally associated with eating disorders. Except being around people who ate. So he ate to join in I guess? What was his trigger?

607# at 20 years old blows my mind. He never looked "happy" either. Especially after surgery. Looked more depressed.

Finally someone on this show is motivated to lose weight and his one supporter (his mom) is a POS.
