Yeah...this one definitely does not belong. I have shown this to both of my sons, 10 and 6, and though the older one was hesitant because of the name, both loved it as much as I had. There's nothing about the movie that dates it, and it's so well written with such great performances. It benefits from the fact that it's a fantasy but has little over the top special effects which would otherwise make it not hold up.

It was good, but I watched it the other night for the first time in decades, and i just realized how bad the puppets were.

I would add "Jason and the Argonauts (1963)" and "The Other", and it hurts to say it considering how awesome I thought they were.
P.S. Did anyone else read "swallowed" when they scanned over "saw/loved"?

None that I can think of. I grew up in the 50's and 60's. Everything on TV was good we couldn't afford to go to the theater often but when we did it was always something good.

Well then you are in luck because the upcoming remake will have a bunch of cgi Gremlins

Possibly as I haven't seen it since I was a kid, but not sure I trust your credibility from above.

This was on just the other day and it still held up. Of course, it's super cheesy, but it holds up. Guaranteed kids like it.
