IIRC in The Omega Man Heston is dying but still alive as the film ends. I think. (I saw it a long time ago)
I thought he sacrificed himself in the explosion at his lab to save the woman and child.
I haven't seen it since the 90s, maybe the 80s

But I seem to recall Heston is in the fountain holding the serum, when he drops it into the hand of the chemistry student. The others leave while he watches, Christ-like, knowing the world will be saved b/c he sacrificed himself.

FWIW he is alive at the end of the book as well. He says "I am legend." and that's the last sentence,

That ending is taken from the book and original script of Red River

However it was changed during productiom so John Wayne wouldn't have to die

I can never think about this movie w/o remembering the Ramones' video:

In a pet cemetery"

That's like saying Columbo isn't the protagonist b/c he doesn't show up until a half hour in

Norman Bates is the protagonist of Psycho.

In my troll post above I thought about putting this one.

But Angier was a villain through and through. I understand losing his wife but he went pretty evil all the way through.

That’s how I see it, too. The first time we watched it my wife thought Angier was the protagonist and Borden was the antagonist. I just wonder how many people see it that way.
