Movie/TV characters played by 2 different actors

So I'm watching major league 2 for the first time and up walks willie mays Hayes. I'm thinking, what the hell, in the first one it was Wesley snipes and now he is played by Omar epps.
Do they really think no one will notice?
Why not just add a whole new character if snipes wasn't available for the sequel?
Can anyone think of other cases of this in TV/movies?
Has it ever worked?

He's been played by Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and now Daniel Craig.
Batman has been played by Adam West, Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Christian Bale, and now Ben Affleck.
It happens all the freaking time and works all the freaking time.

Jenny's dad almost fits into this discussion. He was a different actor when he appeared for the first time on All In the Family but he was called Louis and wasn't a buffoon like Tom Willis.
I never noticed it until someone linked the scene from that AITF episode on here recently.
