Will Matt Saracen survive the purge?

It's called The Purge: Anarchy and it graces us with its presence on June 20th.

I never saw the original, but the fact that #7 from FNL is in this one makes me slightly giddy.

No Landry on board as a sidekick, no care.

Looks like I've found a worse movie than the original Purge.

I hate to be an egghead, but nobody with even a rudimentary knowledge of the social and politics sciences could take The Purge seriously.

The Purge is based on the Hobbesian fallacy that anarchy would be a hellscape. I like to think that Hobbes has been roundly disproved, but, alas, Hollywood isn't filled with smart people.

Hollywood makes a product that others eat up/pay money for and Hollywood makes a profit. So who aren't the smart people here?

Hollywood producers are worth 9 figures yet THEY'RE the dumb ones

Its like people making fun of the guy who invented the pet rock, but still bought a pet rock. That guy laughed all the way to the bank.

FWIW, The Purge was entertaining to me and I'll Netflix the second if I ever see it on there and I'm bored.

I'm not going to blast you, but what makes you associate "awesome" with the purge?

Pandering doesn't equal smart. If that was so, we could place Adam Sandler in the same echelon as Einstein and Galileo.

I'd say Adam Sandler is very smart. He found a market for his crap and he's been extraordinarily successful. Same with Michael Bay and Tyler Perry. Hate their product all you want, but they're industry brilliant.

I wouldn't say it's brilliant, just pragmatic. They're not the first to market to the lowest common denominator.
