Hughes wrote Vacation along with Christmas Vacation, Planes Trains & Automobiles, and Home Alone. And even though you may not like it, Ferris Bueller is consistently ranked in the top 80's movies and comedies.

Caddyshack Animal house Vacation

Not many people would be able to remove any one of those from the top 5. And that doesn't even include:

Ghostbusters Stripes Groundhog Day

Uh, they recently paid boatloads of money to run a Super bowl ad centered on Ferris Bueller

And Hughes wrote Vacation, so hes got two of your Top 5 all time comedies, as well as these popular movies

Mr Mom #9 for '83 / Vacation was #11
European Vacation #14 for '85
Home Alone #1 for '90
Home Alone 2 #2 in '92
101 Dalmations #6 in '96

I'm actually with you, while I think Ghostbusters is a good movie I've never gotten why some view it as a great comedy.

Animal House, Stripes, Vacation and Caddyshack are 4 of the greatest comedies of all time, and they hold up without being "80's Movies."

You guys do realize who wrote Vacation, right?

As far as choosing, the Ramis comedies are legendary and the teen dramas by Hughes are legendary. I won't choose. I'll just watch all of their great films and love it

Hughes, with uncredited revisions by Ramis and Chevy Chase.

That was the only time there was any significant intersection between the two - at least that I could find.
