I disagree to some extent, especially with Tench and his kid.
I think the Manson interview alone made the storyline with Tench’s kid worthwhile. Manson talking about how he can’t make anyone do something they don’t want to do gets so under Tench’s skin because, as we know, he is trying to rationalize that his son is an innocent bystander in the involvement of the killing of the boy. That leads to Tench blowing up. I thought it was an incredibly well done scene that is more powerful because of the Tench and his kid storyline.
I go back and forth on this.
What are the odds that the lead agent of the new behavior science division's son is involved in the killing of a toddler in the house his mother has on the market?
On the other hand, Tench wants to better the world so adopting a potentially troubled youth makes sense.
It's obviously a TV show so liberties are taken to advance the stories. I agreed initially that the personal relationships (lesbian girlfriend, psycho killer kid) distracted from what makes the show great. But it also adds depth to the characters and how their daily life affects their work.
It's a great show.

That was my problem. And since his neighborhood/parish knew that he was assigned to serial killer cases, it's no leap to wonder if that had any influence on his child being involved in the killing. I'd think the outcry would be more then they showed. And his superiors will throw a fit when they find out that their agent's wife and child were both involved in a heinous manslaughter case.

Yea, I get that they want to build Tench's character and backstory, but they went a tad overboard imo. My only real complaint so far

It would have been better if the kid showed some borderline serial killer tendencies (anti-social, maybe killed a rodent or torture a cat) and see how tench handles it.

Wendy Carr.
A lot of you must have missed the part where Greg Smith brings up Homosexuality being a deviant behavior and where Wendy Carr corrects him into saying it's no longer viewed as deviant but a lifestyle.
Being that shes a closeted Lesbian working in a field studying deviant behaviors in killers, I'm sure this will come up again and explains why they are showing her relationship.
It's bugging me that someone started an entire thread on this yesterday and doesn't get this part of the show. Thread about someone always has to be gay

She said it’s now classified as “sexual oreintation disorder” or something like that

The whole first season they were saying he wouldn't talk at all. He was extremely anti-social. Then Nancy just finds him staring at the girl on the swing. The kid looks and appears and communicates like a little sociopath.

Thank you. I have been re-watching and have been trying to find that quote.

Yeah they’ve been setting up the kid storyline since S1.
Just finished the season in Two sittings
The only thing that bothered me about Holts personal life storyline was the wife, who seemingly flipped completely from episode 7 to episode 8 when she says the thing about being glad he’s not her son. Then she turns into cliche bitchy wife
Also the only other negative was how much they spent on Wendy’s relationship, much like the relationship holden had in season 1 where at first it was interesting and had a connection to the story, it quickly just turned into a way to burn 10 minutes of the episode with relationship drama
Now that the bad is out of the way frickkk I love this show. Can’t wait for S3 in 2030.
-Can’t imagine why people want to rush the BTK thing. You have to go off the timeline and we are decades away from him being arrested. He will either be a flash forward at the final episode or they will flash way in the future to finish that off. I’ve mentioned since last season that the BTK one is an odd fit in the story given the storyline.
-no one plays a pompous arse better than Holden. Jesus Christ when he came in to make that speech for the former director I was like holy shite this dude cannot go 5 seconds without blowing his own dick. I wander what John Douglas feels about that characterization.
-also if we end up continuing through the 80-90s, I can’t wait until the movies come out based on the BSU and Hannibal Lecter. That’ll be some great material.
- they ran through so many serial killers I hadn’t heard of so quickly early on, got a lot of Wikipedia research to do
-the Atlanta cop was a great character this season. Wasn’t as flashy as Holt, but fought back on Holden’s beliefs in the right ways to try to give him some perspective.

The acting is so good in this. When Shepard lit up Holden, Holy shite, that was some powerful hateful speech! I had flashbacks of Jack Nicholson in the "you can't handle the truth" speech. Man that shite was brutal!
One of the best parts to me that no one has mentioned is when they sent agent Gregg Smith into the black neighborhood to see what the likely hood of getting a black kid to trust a white man, was epic.

My issue had nothing to do with her being gay. I think it just dragged the story down similar to Holden and his girlfriend in season 1. And both storylines I liked the connection to the main story at the beginning but felt like it was wasted motion after a while to stick with it through the break ups

Literally the first thing said to him: "You a cop?"

Well speaking of Holden and breakups, I like how they keep showing how well Holden can "detect" and read people.
Like when he figured out how he knew his gf was breaking up with him and when he got Agent Greg to admit he sent the tape after ruling out Tench, Carr and Shepard.

So glad to see this back. Just finished the first 4 episodes of the new season. I almost lol'd at the end of the third one where yet again the episode was over and it was so engrossing it seemed like only half the allotted time had passed. "shite, it's over already?"
Just really excellent all the way around.

Is there anything like this on Netflix that any of you recommend?
I've seen,
Manhunt: The Unabomber Story. I thought it was awesome.
Evil Genius. Holy shite that was nuts.
Anything I need to watch that you all recommend?

I am a Killer is pretty good. It's a documentary that interviews a bunch of different murderers on Death Row. I binged watched the hell out of that.

Is it wrong that the people who annoyed me the most were Tanya and Camille? Holden was going out his way to listen and help. He kept putting pressure on everyone to solve this case. Camille was kind of shitty to him the entire time. Tanya turned on him cause she didn’t hear what she wanted to hear.
I’m definitely in the group that thinks the Wendy relationship stuff was kind of pointless.
The stuff with Tench’s kid was great and really had an impact on everything Tench did after that. Plus, that kid really had a creepy/evil vibe to him at moments, even though what he did could kind of be seen as innocent in a way.
These serial killer characters and interviews continue to make this show. Just brilliant stuff.

That’s pretty much how it went in real life in terms of how the people felt in that area from what I’ve read. There are still people who think they came in looking for a black man so it wouldn’t create a more tense situation in the growing Atlanta metro and that Wayne Williams was set up.
Also the person that Holden is based on, publicly stated during the arrest period that he was pretty certain Williams did most of the murders and the FBI censured him for it.
I loved the underlining moments during the season that showed you how inefficient the APD is, and then left you with questions of how much of that was incompetence vs corruption.
