Dafrick?

I was excited and thrilled for a hot minute season three finally happened..... only to learn no Aziz and instead a focus on his black friend who came out in season 2 with a focus on IVF.

Bummer.

Yeah, probably the worst announcement about an upcoming season of TV I can remember.

It's like if South Park announced a new season that would focus exclusively on some of Randy's fellow geologists and that they were going to deliberately not be funny to bring awareness of the plight of Native Americans.

I’ve read the reviews and it’s five depressing episodes about the black gay couple cheating on each other over and over again while bringing kids into their lives and cheating more while turning Dev’s character into a balding, pessimistic dope who’s acting career has failed.

I watched five minutes and the excessive art show style was grating.

Season 1&2 may be some of the most enjoyable TV I’ve ever watched.

This shite... is an abortion.

The biggest issue is it's not anything like the previous two seasons. At all. I wouldn't consider this Season 3, more of a spin-off. But I'm not even sure it qualifies as that since the tone is a complete 180. And this could have easily been a two-hour movie instead.

It's obvious Aziz is still trying to climb out of his unwarranted involvement in the #MeToo movement by doing a season based on a black, lesbian couple trying to have a baby. Probably the most woke thing one could do.

It was somewhere between me not liking it and it being ok. I skipped through all the long, drawn-out scenes once I figured out the direction Aziz was going with it. I enjoy indie movies but I wasn't all that interested in what was going on.

I'm certain critics will have nothing but good things to say about it. I'm not upset that I watched it, but will never watch it again.

I was scrolling Netflix and saw "New Episodes" and got excited. I watched 3 minutes and said out loud "What the frick is going on"...watched the trailer and said I'm out. I loved...LOVED the first two seasons. This is very sad

Unless I’m mistaking what you’re saying, they established that she was gay in the second scene of the first episode.

I was talking about the Thanksgiving episode of season 2 where I’m pretty sure she officially came out to her family unless I’m mixing episodes and seasons up.

Started watching the first episode of the new season and it was pretty awful. I told my wife I was done with it about 15 minutes in.

ETA: and I really enjoyed the first two seasons.

This was an amazing and perfect self-contained episode that rightly won a bunch of awards and acclaim.

But I don't think any fan of the show was like...maybe every episode should be like this, but with even less Aziz!

I so badly wanted a season following Rachel in Japan (concurrent to season 2), and not just because I have amassive crush on Noelle Wells. Aziz loves Tokyo and I think he would have a ton of stuff to show off visually and to say about the idea of being a 20something ex-pat in that particular place (where he was a 20somsthing ex-pat for a while).

I was really excited about it and I gave up 20 minutes in. hate the Aziz was "cancelled" even after he proved his innocence.

What a massive fricking dud....I did a rewatch of the first two seasons a few months ago and forgot how much I enjoyed it.

I got through Ep 1 and when Aziz finally showed up, the show started to feel like itself.....but then back off the rails...

No Aziz
No Eric
No Care

You think he really wanted this to be the season 3 of the show? If so he's fallen way too off. Surely his team had him "coached" into doing this.

Possibly. I’ve read a few interviews where he and the co creator Alan yang talk about not wanting the show to get stale and setting the show up to by anthological if they wanted it to be

There was a long break between S1 and S2 because they wanted to find a different approach to the show to get excited about according to them so I could see a scenario where they wanted the show to move in this direction, even though I don’t really like the direction they want to go in

The show has been super experimental throughout its run, so this doesn’t really surprise me at all. They’ve done a few different perspective episodes that were excellent. I don’t think this is what I will enjoy as a full season, but this decision makes sense given what they already did

I mean after the shite he went through I could understand if he doesn’t really want to be under the spotlight in the same way yet. Might have more interest in the producing/writing/directing aspect of the show at the moment

Yeah it’s a bummer. If there’s a season 4 I’d imagine they go back to his story unless this season crushes it critically
