Thank God the waitress was just a catalyst for what Don ended up doing. If she had appeared in the finale I think I would have broken my TV.

Going back to Don's "return" to McCann, I think he easily would've been welcomed back. Holbert could've been pissed but at the end of the day, they'd rather have Don with them instead of with the competition.

Exactly right.

Have people already forgotten the wet spot Jim Hobart got in his pants everytime he heard "Hi, I'm Don Draper of McCann-Erickson."

The ENTIRE point of the acquisition was TO GET DON!

Then he became someone that we all rooted for. That's tremendous writing.

Sorry. I never rooted for Pete.

The blackmailing coupled with his constant, self-important egotism was too much for me to ever root for him.

anybody remember the actor in Another Day in Paradise with James Woods?

Pete Campbell was the most loathsome - an entitled, silver spooned, blackmailing piece of shite.

Nah.

He was extremely loyal to the good guys and also got redemption with Peggy.

Pete was awesome.

Harry Crane fricking sucked. I wanted to punch him every appearance. That Megan scene was brutal, wish she would have bitch slapped him.

+1 ... crane's been a dick every time he's been on ...

I don't really give a damn what others think. This board will always say that Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones are better (of which I love both), but consider the demographic. I think MM is the best written show of all time. It's my personal favorite. It's unquestionably top five. Beyond that we are just splitting hairs.

game of thrones is nothing compared to bb and mm ...

Okay, watched it. Read this whole thread.

Beautifully simple ending and that's all there is to it.

People rag on Harry, but if not for his giving Don a heads up about the Cutler plan on cutting him out, Don could be fricked right now.

Wow did we misread this last episode. I've seen pretty much everyone I thought was done.

ETA: "Little rich bastard. He really is I guess." fricking Roger. God bless him.

Before the finale I thought we would see Conrad Hilton for some reason.

Saw this on twitter:

@celebrityhottub "You know...my name wasn't always Wilson. Once it was Don...once it was Dick..."

Likewise though I haven't read this entire thread yet. I will try and get to it tomorrow. I do value you the input of the people on this board.

The Coke commercial was about as perfect an ending as you could ask for. My wife and I concluded that Peggy and Stan were responsible for the commercial and Peggy finally got the credit she deserved that led to her Creative Director position with McCann.

I was satisfied with the culmination of all the character arcs. Pete finally saw the light and reunited with a sweet smokin' hot Trudy. Peggy and Stan realized that sometimes the person you love is the person you have been working with successfully all along. Roger including his son with Joan in his will was very fitting as he goes off to marry Megan's mother. They hit a home run with Joan starting her own business. She's still young with a lot to prove and didn't need to settle down with an old retiree.

Obviously the saddest ending was for Don and his lost family. Don loved Betty to the bitter end and realized that he had blown his marriage/family by being unfaithful to his wife. shite happens. When Betty told him over the phone that she wanted things to stay as normal as possible after she died, that meant excluding Don since it was normal for Don not to be there. That's when it hit Don that he had fricked up his whole life.

But I'm glad he didn't check himself out. The encounter group ending was about as good as any for Don. We can conjecture about where he goes from there but I still think it logically leads to him returning to his true identity as Dick Whitman and trying to start over in a new life. Maybe he can get it right next time.

This show is definitely in my top 5 all time favorite series. Excellent writing, outstanding characters and great acting. /salute

If there is any connection between DD and commercializing that hippie shite, so help me God that's the best ending to a modern television show that I've seen.

I didn't see anything in that final episode coming. Nothing. After 7 years. So I'm impressed.

Bitching is one thing...to end this amazing series with a character we've never met named Leonard crying at a therapy camp in California is a fricking joke.

Way to miss the point of the entire fricking run of the show, buddy.
