Once again, I don't understand the Betty scene. She just left the violin. What is her character's point.

It's interesting now. Old Betty would have never gone to that place, let alone got out of bed for someone other than herself. Now we see her in the slums trying to save a girl.

The violin was a symbol of holding onto things that should just be left, IMO. Probably a metaphor for her own life, like the previous line suggested. Betty isn't happy, and things will change for her this season.
