I just finished Season Three, and I’m scratching my head. In episode 23, Chloe sees his devil face and realizes everything is actually true. The next episode is presented as Ella seeing a “ghost” that turns out to be Azrael, and the only mention of what happened in the previous episode is a throwaway line at the end. Then the next episode is an alternate reality tale. WTH?

How do you have the show’s ultimate reveal and then not follow up on it?

When Episode 23 originally aired on Fox, it was given as the season finale, which became at the time the series finale. The following two episodes were filmed and ready to go, but I don't believe they were meant to be aired directly after 23. Would have been better placed in a next season or something.

However, once Fox canceled the show they aired them back to back the week after 23, which I didn't know at the time until seeing that they were on Netflix the other week.

They ran "filler" episodes out of sequence while their fate was pending.
