I'm halfway through season 5 of my re-watch. My full Lost questions/theories post should come next week.

I appreciate not wanting to spoil it, but my curiosity is too much.
Well, I know that Season 5 will get confusing as frick. I liked it, but man, I had to get my head around some of the concepts with time travel. My wife says it gives her a headache.

I like talking it out, and I don't mind when someone hits me with a little spoiler or two. It allows me to rewind and WTF? a few less times when watching the show.

Richard says that Jacob made him that way

The Richard-centric episode this season has the potential to be the best episode of the series.

Could Richard be Essau?

Rousseau's biological and Ben's adoptive daughter. You should certainly know who Alex is since she is one of the most important supporting characters.

It just slipped my mind, she hasnt really been mentioned since she was killed.

It pisses me off that they didnt let Ben (little boy) die when Sayid shot him. Let that bastard die.

Im wondering if Jacob being able to keep Richard ageless, thus doing the will of Jacob on the island is his counter to Essau being able to take on the shape of beings on the island
I don't know. Apparently there's a set of rules that Jacob and Esau have to abide by. This is shaking out like the old Greek Gods movies like Jason and the Argonauts or whatever. I like that.

One thing that really puzzled me was that when "Locke" insists on going to Jacob, Richard whispers to Ben that he is going to be trouble.
It almost seems that me, that Ben and Richard were in collusion, both lying about communication with Jacob. Maybe Jacob is really "hands off"? He wants to watch what happens to people but won't interfere directly in any way? We have never seen Richard actually speak to Jacob either.

I can't wait. I've got ten episodes left in my rewatch. I'll try to finish next week so we can compare. I plan on watching the Season 5 finale (in my opinion, the best episode of the series) about three or four times.

I pretty sure she was born pre-purge.

I meant to say after the Incident, but this does bring up an interesting point. With DHARMA on the Island, it makes absolutely no sense how Rousseau could have arrived before the Purge and I would say it is a slight continuity error. First of all DHARMA had roads throughout the Island. Am I really supposed to believe that Rousseau never found one of those roads? Also The Others kill all of DHARMA by spraying toxic gas that killed EVERYONE on the Island who wasn't wearing a gas mask. Rousseau should have perished after that. Also how was Ben supposed to raise Alex while he was still a member of DHARMA?

Sounds like we are all at the same episode. We should start a thread a day about each episode for a build up to season 6.

You can't change the past. Shooting Ben is actually what created him. Sayid's shooting him, and Jack's NOT treating him, and Kate, Juliet and Sawyer's bringing him to the Others, is what makes Ben into Ben.
Richard warns that he will be forever changed by going into the temple, and if he's coming out anything like Rousseau's party came out... he comes out as a psychopath.

season 6 - I wonder if it will reveal anything on Jacob? I dont know what is up with him or why Jacks dad is around. Also how come Richard doesnt get older?

Season 5 elaborates on alot of these questions.

But that couldn't happen.... because it didn't happen. Ben does live. We know he does, because as viewers, we have already seen it.

To be honest, if time travel really did exist, I don't think you could change the past because you would cease to exist before you could do it. Also if you did do something, I do think reality would be course corrected and there are indeed rules. For instance, if you went back in time and killed baby Hitler, then the maid would walk in and see the dead baby, and would then go to the Jewish Ghetto, abduct a Jewish baby, and that would become the actual Hitler.

Interesting. I always kind of saw him as sort of a consigliere for the leader(s). He was very reluctant to let MIB/Locke see Jacob, so that makes him seem protective of him at least.

No, fate would not let him...

Just like when Michael attempted to kill himself when Tom came for him in NY. The gun wouldnt go off.

If this map is accurate, then the French group landed on a very isolated pennisula of the island and the Dharma barracks were separated by the West Mountain Range. Also, only about a month separates Rousseau's crash and Alex's kidnapping, so it isn't inconceviable that she didn't wander far from the crash site in that month.

This one is easy. The gassed portion was only the barracks. It's a pretty limited area. According to the map, Rousseau's camp was a good distance from there.

This is the toughest question. I wonder if some light will be shed on these three years (1989-1992) in Season Six.
