Heard a ton of great stuff about this movie.
Everything I've heard and who I heard it from makes me think I should love it.
Scarlett Johansenn = fine
Watched it several years ago (4-6 years ago, maybe?) and thought it was boring.
Heard more good stuff. Watched it again tonight, thinking maybe I'm older and more mature now, and I 'd get it. Still meh.
What am I missing here?

Lost in Translation has to be directly identifiable. If you had not been in Bill Murray's or Scarlett Johanson's shoes, then you likely won't fully appreciate this film. If you have been really lost in your life or a stranger in a strange land, then I don't see how you can't love this movie. If you haven't had these experiences, then I can understand not liking it.
I really disliked this film the first time I watched this movie and thought it was pretentious bullshite. The second time I moved to a new area in Beijing and most of my friends went home for the fall, and this film really helped me cope with it. This is one of my favorite films, but I can understand why certain people don't like it.

I really love that movie -- I think it was the best movie to come out in the 2000s. Bill Murray and Scarlett Johanson are great in it (and she's never been lovelier). The soundtrack is great too.

See, that's the thing...I live in a foreign country with a different culture (albeit not "Japan" different). I feel like I was supposed to feel sorry for Scarlett's character, but all I can think (besides, "Bitch! Get Naked!!") is "Bitch!! You're in Japan for a few weeks with zero to do. Carry your worthless arse out of your hotel room!!!"

Nothing - no movie is for everyone.
What kind of movies do you lean towards, typically?

Honestly, I don't know.
