Nobody is getting upset about it. It's a message forum and we're just commenting about how Letterman sucks now compared to what he used to be.

You're the one digging and trying to drag political angles into this...

So... having a Democrat running for president to boost his electoral chances is selling out but having a Republican running for president to boost his electoral chances is not remotely the same thing?

Dude are you trolling are just being dense? Obama isn't just "running for president" as Bush was in 2000. He IS FREAKING PRESIDENT while our embassies across the world are under assault. How can you not see the difference?

Let's take each phrase one at a time.

"He IS FREAKING PRESIDENT"

Doesn't that make him sort of a great guest? I mean, I don't know about you, but if I had a show built around booking famous people, getting the FREAKING PRESIDENT is a pretty great get. I mean, isn't that sort of Letterman's job? To get guests that people will want to watch to drive up his ratings? You realize you're currently arguing that a talk show booking the Most Powerful Man in the World is somehow bad and something he shouldn't do.

Part two:

"while our embassies across the world are under assault"

I'm not sure why this matters at all. Letterman's not a news reporter and he's not going to grill the president on foreign policy. But let's say it really does matter. The embassies are part of this nation. so we are therefore under assault, but your own admission.

Aren't we supposed to rally around our leaders and public officials when we are under attack? Isn't that why people were very bad for criticizing W agter 9/11? If we are "under assault", shouldn't we be rallying behind the Head of State?

I was trying to interpret your comments as being angry over helping a political candidate over another candidate because, frankly, I can't figure out why anyone would be angry by the alternative. You're mad that Letterman booked the President when given a chance? Really?

Why? I can't fathom why. W appeared on Ellen when he was president. Does that make Ellen a sell out? Or was she just, you know, getting a great booking?

Letterman on NBC in the '80s was by far the greatest late night show I've ever seen. He has become one of the most disastrous declines in TV history
This. I agree with it.

Letterman on NBC was gold.

Does this soothe the ruffled feathers of the "Letterman has sold out crowd?"

No, I don't give a rat's arse about his politics, though that seems to be the focus of a lot of criticism. He had a creative, inovative, somewhat absurdist, funny show and threw that in the toilet for his sardonic, cynical, a-hole persona and the show hasn't been funny for a very long time.

And Leno suggested to Dennis Miller the other night that he was turned off by the GOPs War on Women. My God.

Sorry to hijack the thread with Leno, but I have to share this video. It includes part of the Leno-Miller segment. I bookmarked it because it was so enjoyable for me. SIAP (didn't read entire thread).

You've gone full tard. In one post you imply that a candidate going on Letterman equates to the actual President (who, frankly has more important things to do right now) as some veiled attack on Bush/conservatives. Your assertion implies that Bush and Obama being on are really no different.

Ok then, I responded saying both being on are not the same by virtue of one being in office. You respond by bringing up Letterman's decision making rationale? I don't give a crap about why Letterman did what he did. I care about why OBAMA did what he did.

If you've never seen Letterman's NBC stuff you've never really seen him. It's like only knowing Jerry Rice as a Seahawk, or Buck Owens only from "Pickin' & Grinnin'".

Yeah, I just did a search for "giant doorknob" and "car and truck rental song" and got no video hits. He was having a blast doing his show back in those days. Sad what he became.

Remember the Christmas special with Pat Boone and Brother Theodore? When they sent the kid out late at night to buy a Christmas tree?

His show was damn funny in the early/mid 80's. He has become what he used to mock.

yeah, he is sort of self aware about it but doesn't care... when he went from late night on NBC to the 10:30 slot on CBS is started the process

where he used to tear into idiot celebrities he stopped doing that as much when he moved to CBS (you had to just cry out for it like Madonna for example)

And I think his political opinions are just his political opinions - I don't think he expresses them in a very sophisticated way though... ham-fisted is the typical approach
