DC fans are about to find out what happens when the studio lets one of Batman’s most disturbing villains take over the big screen. Clayface releases in theaters just before Halloween, putting a monster at the center of a franchise better known for capes and crime-fighting. But Gotham’s shapeshifting nightmare isn’t the only DC character horror fans have been waiting to see get his own movie.

Swamp Thing has been a particularly intriguing prospect since the project was first listed among the plans for James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe. Having James Mangold, the filmmaker behind Logan, tackle the character only made the wait harder. With years passing since the project was announced and very few updates since, though, fans have understandably wanted to know whether that trip into the swamp is actually going to happen.

Ahead of Clayface, Safran confirmed to Collider’s Steven Weintraub that Swamp Thing is still moving forward with Mangold, and the studio is waiting for him to deliver a draft. He explained that the director’s work on his Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown, had kept him occupied before he was ready to return to DC’s monster movie. Asked about the project’s status, Safran said

“It’s moving forward. Literally, we're waiting on a draft. James Mangold’s a fantastic filmmaker — obviously one of our favorite superhero movies, but plenty of other great, great films. He was busy making his Bob Dylan movie with [Timothée] Chalamet, so we were waiting for Mangold to come up for air, and when he did, he's like, ‘I'm ready now.’ And that was it.”

Next up:

Clayface releases next week.
MOT in July
Gorilla Grodd late 2027 (tentative)
Swamp Thing
Mr. Miracle

Not sure what this is leading to, if anything. But what projects, movies or tv shows, would you like to see them tackle next? And what directors should they go after?

Ahead of Clayface's premiere, DC Studios co-chief Peter Safran told Collider’s Steve Weintraub that fans should hear about a potential Lanterns Season 2 “before the end of the year.” That gives viewers a window for news, although Safran did not announce a renewal. He also confirmed that the work happening in the Season 2 writers’ room will help determine whether the series moves forward. Asked what he took away from the first season and its reception, Safran pointed to what the show had accomplished for Green Lantern following the character’s 2011 movie. He described the series as a success in bringing the property back into the public conversation. For him, that was the most rewarding part of its first season:

quote:

“This was one great season of television based on a property that had been somewhat irradiated since 2011, right? The thing that's most gratifying about this show and this season on HBO is that it's brought Green Lantern back into the conversation, into the public culture in a really positive fashion.”

James Mangold
Such an inconsistent body of work

his highs are high, like Logan, Ford v Ferrari, and 3:10 to Yuma

But his lows are dogshit. . .Knight and Day, Dial of Destiny, The Wolverine, Kate and Leopold, and Identity

No clue what this is, but apparently it's one of the projects up next

quote:

IGN: On that television front, you did announce some interesting animated projects at the Annecy festival. What can you tell us about where some of those are right now?

Peter Safran: Somewhere in early stages. Absolute Batman, (Scott Snyder’s) just working on the scripts right now. Mr. Miracle, I think that Tom King really learned a lot in his season of co-creating and executive producing Lanterns and he adapted his book Mr. Miracle fully on his own, wrote all eight episodes and I think it's just dynamite. Josh Hutcherson as Scott Free and Mackenzie Davis as Big Barda. And I just think it's a book that I've always loved and I remember Tom telling us early on that, every convention he goes to, at least a couple people come up to him and say this book saved my life and I love that we got to tell that story over eight episodes. And it's just a beautiful story about, “How do we survive in today's world knowing that we're never going to truly know the answers to the big questions in life?” It's a beautiful book and the adaptation is fantastic so we're excited about that.

Knight and Day, the Wolverine and Identity were all pretty good films - not oscar material, but to call them lows is kinda silly - no offense
