Well, they're trying to set up Mandarin as some pan-Asian mastermind instead of the Chinese caricature he started out as in the comic, for the obvious reasons you're more aware of than most here.

After doing a little more reading I'm getting excited for this. 1 was my favorite super hero movie of all time. I hope it can recapture some of that.

Oh I know. Completely aware of why they're doing it. It's more of a disappointment, but I can fully understand it.
Plus the Chinese are personally financing the film, to where there will be two versions of it: An American and Chinese version. They did the same thing with Looper.
