That's the kind of interview Fallon could never have pulled off.

Exactly!

Biden would be in the middle of telling the story about his dying son and Fallon would stop him to Karaoke "Uptown Funk"

But you "get it" don't you, duncecap? What is it you get? That somebody who essentially agrees with you that Colbert is great and Fallon sucks shite, might just not feel like dialing up laughs and getting drama instead? Maybe that's what you don't get.

Go eat a turd.

It's really fricking with my morning routine. Makes it difficult to wake up at 545

Colbert aims to the higher educated adult market

Exactly. He knows he's not going to get the kids and their cowardly refusal to engage with life (I f'n HATE ironic detachment... engage with the world, whatever your beliefs are, otherwise it's just a giant cop out). He's not trying to be the new Dave, he's trying to be Dick Cavett.

Dave always felt bad for driving Ted Koppel out of late night, and he felt there was a space in late night for something serious. Colbert can't do a news show like that, but he can bring an adult sensibility. This is a show for grown ups. I don't think that makes Fallon bad or anything, it just means they are playing to different people. In fact, that's a good thing. Variety and all.

But that was an amazing f'n interview. Biden's never been real good at playing the political game, he's always been way too blunt and honest to be a true master politician (though it did once lead to him telling Quadafi to STFU, which was sort of awesome). So this was the perfect storm of guest and host to have that sort of honest interview about death and faith. I think their shared trauma and Catholicism is what made the interview work so well.

It was riveting television.

Just saw the Biden interview. Wow. Easily one of the most touching interviews I've ever seen. Kudos to Colbert.

I've never cared for Biden or his politics, but that's beside the point. That was an amazing interview and it really made me feel for Biden as a person.

I'm not sure if this is sarcasm, but Colbert is pretty damn popular with the young folk

What? His biggest following is from the younger crowd.

The median age of a Comedy Central viewer is 29. The median age of a Colbert Report viewer was 44.

Yes, he skews old.

At minimum he needs an announcer. I agree with that.
