In a fancy hotel. They would have known what's bourbon and what's not. It's not a gas station.
You mean the fancy hotel where the GHOST bartender serves him his drink?
Along with it being a horror movie, there are tons of included “flaws” that Kubrick purposefully included like the impossible window.
I think it’s safer to assume if there is a detail that’s incorrect it was done on purpose and you can’t figure out what the deeper meaning is.

I agree with you. I actually visited the Stanley Hotel for the first time last month. Obviously it’s nothing like the movie, but they did have a phenomenal bar that had over 1000 different whiskey/bourbon selections. Trust me. The bartenders know the difference. Probably the most educated bartenders I have been around.
Just saying.
Just saying.

You might be onto something, I read about all the USA vs. Native American symbolism in the movie. Could be that Kubrick thought Jack Daniels was the quintessential American drink, so that's what the bartender served him.
I hadn't thought about that, thanks for your post.

Jack Daniels is the Milwaukee's Best of Whiskey. Jack Daniels Single Barrel is pretty decent though.

If you’ve never ordered a bourbon and received Jack Daniels, you don’t order much bourbon.
What kind of bourbon drinker orders a generic glass of bourbon? I order what I want by name.
