That's debatable. I certainly wouldn't say "easily." His Civil War series pretty much set a precedent for multi-episode documentaries.

I think Unforgivable Blackness was probably the inspiration for the way HBO does their sports docs, and those are excellent as well.

That's how good it was, though. It blew away The Civil War, and I love the Civil War series.
