It bothers me more than the scenery is clearly dry arse California and not Eastern Kentucky.
That drove me crazy as well.
People get allergies just looking at pictures of how lush and green central and eastern Kentucky can get.

Wrong:
- Parts of Eastern Kentucky are much, much poorer than they portray.
- The topography (which we've discussed at length).
- The general notion that they're all dumb hillbillies. I've met some fantastic people from out that way that would survive much longer than I could with their knowledge of the land and other things. There's beautiful culture from that area from crafts to music. Especially Bluegrass music.
- Nobody's driving a towncar outside of Harlan and getting where they go on the show.
I would add that, in addition to being a lot poorer, the place is much more raw than a fictional TV show could probably do justice.
The addicts, the grinding generational poverty, the trash, using soft drinks as currency, the physical appearance of the people, and so on - even Justified, which never tried to glorify things - couldn't help but gussy up and put a sheen on how things really are there.

My family are all from Kentucky...yes...there are parts of Eastern Kentucky that are very much like Justified (with some hyperbole).

This brings to mind the movie about the Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia. I couldn’t finish it. It was painful to see people like that. Louisiana trash got nothing on them.
