Shameless is great. I watched the first episode of mad men and I've never been so bored watching a TV show. Maybe it gets better but you gotta put out a better first episode than that.

Shameless is worth watching but I'd go with Justified, The Shield, Deadwood first if you haven't seen those.
Heck, I'd also throw in Chuck, Community, Fringe, House, Boardwalk Empire, and Californication before Shameless.
Shameless is entertaining but it doesn't really build any loyalty or suspense over the years. I still watch because Fiona's titties and general degeneracy, but it isn't really a "great" show.
