I know there are already a few threads on this amazing series but instead of dragging one back to the front page I thought I'd just say HOLY shite what a great show!
Friends told me for years I was missing out but I didn't believe them. I am happy to eat crow on that one.
I binged all six seasons in about 2 weeks and loved every minute of it.
Highlights off the top of my head: The "Wizard" bomb expert dude blowing himself up with his cell phone.
Mikey trying to keep Katherine from killing Wynn and the fight that ensues.
Limehouse cutting off that dude's arm with the skinning knife.
The cop that worked the desk in the evidence room stealing the money Winona was going to steal, buying a sports car and hauling arse to Mexico, and apparently getting away with it.
Every scene Tim Gutterson was in.
Raylan's John Wayne'esque saunter.
Every word uttered by Art.
Things that weren't so great or I had a little problem with:
Rachel's character. She had no consistency to her, causing her promotion to Deputy Chief to be less believable.
Raylan not ending up with Winona. She has this great evolution of understanding on how much the job means to him, and tells him she's OK with it. She tells him to be himself, no more lying. Then, last episode, she's with some Cuban meathead and Raylan is the joint custody cuckdad. There was just too much story left untold to make this an acceptable end to that relationship.
The I like the crown style on the hat Raylan takes off Boon better than the original hat, but that metal clip thing on the brim and the greenhead match in the band are trashy looking. Perfect for Boon, but the flash forward at the end shows Raylan still has those two trinkets on the hat. Super nitpicky, but just my opinion.
Overall, I watched the series based on a friend's recommendation and the threads here supporting his opinion. So hat's off to the MTV board for a great watch!

I also just finished binge watching this. I really can't think of a series I've enjoyed more. I still can't find a bottle of Blanton's.

I've been throwing it on the "Justified" 24/7 channel lately at night and it's really making me want to just start from the beginning again. Such an incredible show.

I love the series top to bottom but I’m torn about ending up with Winona.
In some ways it would have been the better ending. In some ways I’m glad they didn’t.
Great series all in all. I don’t really go back and rewatch dramas much but I’ll rewatch that one for sure.

Art on Drew Thompson:
quote:
“First thing we’re going to do is acknowledge that this guy is awesome. He shoots Theo Tonin, fakes his death in a spectacular fashion, pushes a guy out of air airplane (while he’s flying it). Parachutes into Harlin County with enough coke and cash to jump start the economy of a small country. And then he has the balls to get a job in law enforcement, not once but two times! He spends a couple a days riding around with you while you’re looking for him. And now he’s run off with a hooker that’s half his age. That’s some bad arse shite.”

My eternal damnation of an apology good sir! I believe I must have been under the assumption that his majesty and brilliance was not only understood, but practically worshipped! (said in my best Boyd Freaking Crowder voice)

My take is she was always expecting him to change for her. Raylan is Raylan. He wasn't going to stop being a Marshall. It'd have been disingenuous to portray him doing that I think.

Yeah it would’ve been a bit too clean to just have him living the family life after what we’ve seen.
It’s like if Mad Men would’ve ended with Don back with Betty and the kids watching TV as a happy family together. Doesn’t really make sense for the character
I think it’s a little weird that they threw them together at the end just to show them not together later, but them not ending together made sense.

See, that's the thing though. She flat our TELLS him that she has come to terms with it and that having to choose between a life without him and being able to sleep at night, and a life with him and being worried at night, she's choose the sleepless nights (my best recollection of the quote).
It's almost like the writers were planning to have them end up together when they wrote that, then later decided to go with a "less than storybook happy ending".
I would have been more able to believe the outcome if not for the line I quoted above. That may have been one of the last scenes she's in before the last episode.
The twist needed more explanation in my opinion.

Words can be water though. It's easy to say that you're going to accept something like that, then don't. People make promises like that all of the time IRL and it doesn't pan out.
I just thought at that point they had too much "history" for it to really work out that well.

the most disappointing thing to me was after all the "you'll never leave harlan alive" reminders, every single one of the main characters did in fact leave harlan alive. well that, and rachel was just a terrible actress/character.

Man, I keep seeing this show popup. I guess I will have to give it another shot. I couldn't make it through the first season because it was so god damn cheesy.

The “never leave Harlan alive” song should’ve been the theme song
Honestly the shows biggest issue is how dog shite the shows intro is

I'll disagree.
The biggest issue is telling the world Harlan looks like this dusty arse California shite:
When it really looks like this:

To be fair no one really cares about Kentucky or what it looks like

Agreed. I fast forwarded through it every time.
I mean, most intro's are not great, but there are a few I watched every time:
Black Sails
GoT
and the Greatest intro song of all time: Rockford Files
