shite. I started digging around and I saw the name Larry Lam. He was 10 years older than me but started working with George after I did. He ended up being one of the ninja turtles, i think. I remember Larry well. I was jealous of him. He was better than me and I was the chosen one In that studio until him. Cool thread. I’m digging into shite I hadn’t thought about for years and years.

So crazy to me people know Cynthia Rothrock.

Man, video stores were filled with her straight-to-video movies in the '80s and '90s. My wife has a co-worker with a name similar enough that I always call her China O'Brien. My wife never cares for the joke though.

She totally gave it up to Weinstein. Multiple times.

I don't even think it's a question at this point. She got the role of Tiffany in Silver Linings Playbook as a direct result of a night with Harvey Weinstein. David O. Russell was looking for an actress in her mid/late-30s because that's how old the character is in the novel. One day Weinstein calls and tells him to audition Lawrence (who was 21 years old at the time).

Not that I care much about this movie or the board's weird obsession with this actress' history, but this isn't true. Zooey Deschanel was cast in this role before Russell decided to make The Fighter first instead. She wasn't yet 30 when cast. Then Anne Hathaway had the role. She wasn't 30. Lawrence is younger than the actresses who previously had the role, but not by much. Maybe Weinstein got her the role, but that's based on youtuber speculation.

She had already received serious critical attention for Winter's Bone, and she had already been cast in 2 massive blockbuster franchises. You guys are making it sound like she was an unknown.

She's 10 years younger than Zooey Deschanel and eight years younger than Anne Hathaway.

By the by, David O. Russell did indeed say he thought Lawrence too young for the role:

quote:

Jennifer Lawrence is at the forefront of best actress Oscar talk for her lead role in “Silver Linings Playbook.” But, as writer-director David O. Russell explained to the audience at TheWrap screening series Thursday night, he was so convinced she wasn’t right for the role that he only had her audition via Skype.

“Quite frankly, it was like a formality,” Russell told the capacity crowd at the Landmark Theatre. “I didn’t think she was really a contender. We had three very serious contenders (already). We had a lot of major actresses in town interested in the role, from Angelina Jolie to some other big stars, because it’s a dimensional role for a young woman. Jennifer we frankly thought was too young”

Which is not my intention. The only reason why I paid money to go see Silver Linings Playbook is because she was in it.
