Jar Jar was basically the face of fan's frustrations with the prequels. I wonder what Lucas' plan was for Jar Jar for the rest of the movies had he been universally loved.

If Jar Jar stayed in Otha Gunga when the Jedi went to the palace, dare I say he would have been liked by fans. He simply over-stayed his welcome and the clumsy antics didn't help.

I didn’t realize until just now that Jar Jar was a real person. I thought it was a cgi cartoon.
Back then, Star Wars was Lucas’ baby, but the fans didn’t buy the story as told by Lucas. The fans didn’t want cute cuddly animatronic characters, they wanted light sabers and bad arse fight scenes. How Lucas thought a lizard-Caribbean Mr Bean bumbling and stumbling through the Galaxy would be kick arse blows my mind. This poor actor, did what he was supposed to do, even though his character sucked. Lucas should have fixed this from the beginning.

Too bad about Jar-Jar, Lucas could have saved the first episodes and VII and VIII if the fan theories/fiction that said Jar-Jar was actually Palapitine's Mentor, and the goofiness was an act, were true. Snoke should have been angry evil Jar Jar.

The SECOND movie should have been finding a teen aged Anakin, and the start of the Clone Wars.
Third movie should have been been the end of the Clone Wars and the aftermath of that with Anakin becoming Vader.
That's an arc - Obi Wan protagonist, Palpatine antagonist, and Vader is the object. The protagonist loses the ultimate object in this case, but we already knew the broad strokes.
At least tell an interesting story along the way. They just punted that obvious, easy plan in favor of all toys, all the time.
I liked clone wars and rebels
1 Could have been the rise of the sith and Jedi finding anakin (teenaged) transitioning into the beginning of the clone wars.
2 could have been the clone wars transitioning into rebels time period.
3 could have been rebels time line and Vadar hunting down the Jedi’s transiting into new hope
