They say its a reality show, but I think its closer to an improv'ed sitcom. The situations are clearly staged, and then the guys just riff off it.
Not even close. There seems to be an article in the Monroe paper almost weekly about them. Their quotes usually talk about 10-12 hour day camera shoots. These shows are every bit as scripted as anything on TV. Producers come up with the silly scenarios and they write around them. The lines are written and they read them - simple as that.
An improvised sitcom would be Curb Your Enthusiasm. Talented comedians and actors that ACT their way through outlined scenes.
During some scenes you can clearly tell when they add lines and overdub audio.

I watched one episode of Duck Dynasty. If its a reality show its pretty staged.
Living in Monroe/WM, I feel confident in saying it's 99% scripted. Si is funny though.

More reality tv mythology. Phil's mobile home looks like a palace compared to Si's trailer.

Same here.
2 years ago, I thought that Si would be the one doing Letterman, Kimmel, etc. Then I found out that all of his lines were scripted, and he wouldn't have the same persona anywhere other than Duck Dynasty.

Willie and Jase live in mansions though.

I've never seen 30 seconds of Duck Dynasty I really really hate it. When I meet someone who finds it entertaining I seriously doubt the fact that they claim to not be retarded. If duck dynasty entertains you, what else does? Paint drying, grass growing?
Coming from a baseball fan?

Swamp People is a horrible show and it doesn't represent Louisiana at all.

It's kind of sounding like this season blows. I wouldn't mind finding a way to watch episodes from the 1st season though..

I fail to see how that refutes what I stated about the show, other than you think that that there is an uncredited writing staff for the show that's getting paid under the table. I think the producers stage scenarios and the guys riff off of it. 10-12 hour shoots seem about right for them to work through the scenarios and come up with 30 minutes of useable material. That would be a successful day on a sitcom, and this is a sitcom in reality show trappings.
I highly doubt that writers would work for no credit on a reality show in such a heavily unionized industry.Instead, its producers coming up with concepts and the guys on the show riffing off of it to hone the jokes. There's no reason to believe they couldn't come up with 30 minutes of jokes in a 10 hour shoot without the benefit of a writing staff, especially with the producers imposing a structure.
I do think the guys are in on the joke, which is what makes the show fairly smart and funny. Everything is with a wink and a nod.

This show cracks me up! I don't care who wrote it or if people think it's real, the lines make me lulz! People need to lighten up and enjoy a little life! Who cares if it's not "reality"? People who hate really don't get the humor (every show not for ya).
That's rule number 1!
