There’s such thing as “over the top” which I see that as possibly being a flaw, but not necessarily either if you do it right. You just need to strike the right balance for it to be objectively great. There’s just nothing you can change about Pan’s Labyrinth and make it better. Perfect film making.
And I have met some dumbasses who won’t watch Pan’s Labyrinth because it’s in Spanish, but those people are idiots. The film would be worse if it were in English. But dark and violent has nothing to do with that though.
