Is the femme-fatale character stock type dead in today’s movies?

If you go back and watch action-thrillers/superhero films from the 90s and 2000s, there was always a seductive female character who had a major influence on the character arch of the main protagonist. This trope was widespread throughout Hollywood. High-profile actresses like Angelina Jolie, Charlize Theron, Olivia Wilde, Anne Hathaway, and Salma Hayek all played roles that fit the femme fatale stock type.
Now in 2025, there isn’t a single major studio film out there that even has a female character who even remotely comes close to being a “femme-fatale”. What the hell happened? It feels like this younger generation of actresses and writers been brainwashed with feminist propaganda to “rebel” against gender norms.

Females replaced males as the lead, and strong, leading men were replaced by secondary (and less masculine) male characters who are stupid and can't function without following a strong woman.
And nobody really wants to see that, especially when coupled with the other political type bullshite that sometimes comes with it.

So basically feminism has infested Hollywood writing.

I'm not sure if "feminism" is the right thing. Maybe the wrong kind of feminism is more accurate. People have proven time and time again that they will show up in droves for a female lead, even a female badass lead. Some of the best protagonists in the past have been female (not a ton, but some). There's nothing wrong with a strong female, or strong female lead. But at some point it feels like it shifted and they started turning females into something they aren't. Like badasses kicking everyone's asses and tossing grown men around like they're toddlers.
And like I said, the male characters were neutered past the point of enjoyment for a lot of people I think.

exactly. But, every show/movie doesn't have to be filled with bad bitches.
Yellowstone trotted out bad bitch after bad bitch.
And one issue with Bosch Legacy is Maddie Bosch is apparently this skinny 100lb bad arse that can handle any man.

There's also a movement in feminist Hollywood to reduce or eliminate the classic screen beauty. Who was the last actress to arrive on the scene as a transcendent beauty? It's almost like Hollywood revels in the decadent, the degenerate and the ugly. If men want to see it, it must be done away with.

Its all over too. I'm all about a strong female lead. Within limits. Some of its just stupid. Can't watch a show about anything without the leader/boss/captain/commander/CEO...whatever, being a female. Sometimes is all of them. This just isn't reality, for the most part.

The Recruit on Netflix leans into this pretty hard

I cancelled my Netflix subscription a long time ago. 95% of the content on there is B-movie garbage with atrocious writing and cinematography. Same with Prime and Hulu.
Streaming services have killed the movie industry forever. There’s no going back now. The younger generations like Gen Z and Alpha are going to movie theaters less and less compared to older crowds in favor of staying at home and watching their shitty podcasts or TikTok brain rot. The older generations of actors and directors who made memorable films that we all grew up with are either retiring or dying off. It’s over.
