is it a bad guy of the week or case of the week type of show? or more of a longer story arc show?

For the most part it's a case of the week format. There are some seasons that do have a bad guy throughout, but it's not really serialized. The primary appeal of the show is the cast chemistry. Gus and Shawn are the best comedy duo since Tom and Jerry.
