I think a case can be made.
What say you?

You can do better than this. When starting this thread, you need to list his top roles to support your claim. You should probably include some other top comedic actors for comparison.

Peter Sellers deserves a mention.

I mean, I like Bill Murray but greatest of all time? I don't think he's even in the discussion.

Peter Sellers, Groucho Marx, Bob Hope, Charlie Chaplin... It’s a long list.

Groucho is my personal number one. In fact, most of my funniest comedic actors are from the Black and White era. Chaplin, Keaton, The Stooges, Abbott and Costello, Laurel and Hardy. Damn. I also think Tom Hanks needs to be credited with being a brilliant comedic actor, and of course, Robin Williams.

He’s certainly been in a lot of my favorite movies, I can’t say that about any other comedian off the top of my head.

If you take the Airplane movies, the Naked Gun movies and Police Squad TV show...
There's very few iconic comedic actors...Peter Sellers, Chaplin, Keaton...
You may laugh but Leslie Nielsen is up there in iconic status.
Like Sellers played an iconic character in Pink Panther and also memorable character in Dr. Strangelove.
Nielsen played an iconic character in the Naked Gun franchise and memorable character in the Airplane movies.

Nielsen is a universe below Peter Sellers. Funny guy, but he had a very narrow comedic range.

Bill Murray may well be the coolest man on the planet but I would give Jack Lemmon the nod for best comedic actor.

I dont get the Bill Murray hype. I've never been a huge fan. I hate Groundhog Day and everyone else I know loves it so it may skew my perception of him. It was like the 2nd movie I remember him being in as a kid so maybe that jaded me for life.

No Tim Conway? He was funnier than Murray by a long shot.
