It’s always based in some small country town with a failing budget.

My wife is a hallmark addict. I've seen most of them. There are a few different/ really good ones. They just had one called a southern Christmas where this woman interviews this man who doesn't know he is her biological father as he walked out on them when she was a kid. Based in Louisiana actually.
My fav one is a timeless Christmas where chebert goes back in time to do something I forgot lol but it's really good
lacey chabert is their go to actress and gets the best scripts. She doesn't miss and if she's in it urs usually decent

Literally a tard could write these movies. I don't watch them but if you follow that recipe you can get half the people on the planet to watch them.
The script writing on these movies is so bad that I can’t tell if the writers are stupid or if they have zero respect for their viewers’ intelligence (or both).
A couple of particular things that I find grating:
- attributing common phrases or colloquialisms to a relative (“my grandfather used to say ‘jack of all trades, master of none.’”)
- butchering or mixing up commonly used phrases or colloquialisms and prefacing them with “you know what they say” (“you know what they say, if a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it, three strikes and you’re out.”)
- messing up easily Googleable facts

5 min into the movie, it's obvious who the main character will end up with.
