This line in Full Metal Jacket has always baffled me. It just seems to come out of nowhere and have no meaning.

Does anyone know the intent?

Well, I'm assuming the guy was expressing his desire to slip his tube steak into the other dude's sister.

Or to break the tension/add some realistic comedic relief.

I always took it to mean that they're so beat down from the experience of boot camp that talking about banging Cowboy's sister wasn't something that phased either one of them.

It also shows that Joker and Cowboy have become good buddies during boot. That's not something you would say to a stranger or mild acquaintence. But your buddy? Its almost expected.

I think this may be the intent. I am watching now and just realized when Joker meets up with Cowboy later on they say it again and this explanation seems to make sense.

It just comes so far out of left field at that moment in the film that you have to say "WHAT THE frick?"

The film is an absolute litany of non PC lines. Pure masterpiece about the duality of man but I have to wonder why baptist weren't burning down movie theaters in 1987.
