me: ffs. and im supposed to believe these guys are FBI/SWAT?
I believe the guys that opened the hatch were regular cops. I think the point being made was that this is a new level of violence and brutality that they were unequipped for.

They weren't FBI or SWAT. Those dudes were PD. They had regular PD uniforms on and one of the characters says "PD found something" just before the decision.

Here is how you watch it. You must watch Cartel first and then immediately watch Sicario. Trust me!

There is nothing to support this rape nonsense. Nothing. He tortured the guy. He didn't use rape to do that.
He penetrated the cartel and Mexico. That's where that joke goes.
The guys who got blown up were beat cops who were helping clean the scene after the all clear was given.
But yes, the fact that this simple as frick movie has gone over so many people's heads is mind blowing to me. I suppose major plot points were explained/covered quickly, but the movie, despite the violence, was fairly quiet. The dialogue was relatively sparse and packed with momentum. If you didn't pay attention, you probably got lost quickly. But it's just not that complicated.
ETA:
Everyone of them was in thick plastic sheeting and covered with drywall. The house itself may have smelled, but I doubt it would have been as noticeable as some of the critics of this movie seem to believe.

Yea, it's ridiculous
We've had a couple people say that Emily blunts character had zero impact on the movie and she didn't even need to be there or served any purpose
And we've had people say we are left assuming about del toros role in the cartel, that he may or may not have been involved
They literally tell you these things in the movie. Like the answer is spoken out loud in the movie

I pretty much agree. As someone said earlier, there's is nothing to suggest he had homosexual tendancies and why would he stick his D in some dirty arse mexican's rear end?
Plenty of other methods to do the same thing.
I think people want to believe he pulled his D out in the scene which he did not.

Maybe. I still doubt that plastic sheeting and drywall would have contained the smell of 40 bodies, unless they'd only been in there a couple of days. Could be wrong.
Even though that didn't seem all that realistic to me, I had no real problem with it, as it accurately framed how brutal and evil these folks are. Either way you slice it, it was a creepy, disturbing scene that had its intended affect on me and my girlfriend.

Yeah. Logistics aside, the scene did its job: the audience understands these people are sadistic, clever, organized, and absolutely brutal, and they will require more than normal policing to combat.
I mean, that message was loud and clear when the two beat cops got blown the hell up because they just didn't think about the door being booby trapped. Everyone in the audience may have known it was possible, particularly in a movie because we are all at least in some way conditioned to the story beats, but those clowns didn't even think about it. We can't combat these cartel guys with Joe and Jim Police Officer. We need a bad arse. Enter: Del Toro and Brolin.

I really like the movie. The whole crossing the border, picking up the guy, crossing back/shootout was a great sequence. I couldn't look away the whole time and it took a good 20 minutes. I don't know if was realistic or not, but it was fun to watch..
That was a great scene, but I don't get how the Mexican thugs that followed them got all those weapons through the border

I was a little let down but I guess it was o.k.
However, I have to say that the whole premise was quite stupid. Head honcho is sitting in a freaking huge palace just south of the border with his entire family, but neither the CIA nor the cartel can find him without some convoluted trap to send his U.S. contact his way. Oh, and despite the fact that the CIA has eyes on the vehicle the whole way to the don's mansion they determine that as opposed to just finding out where the place is and telling cartel assassin, it makes much more sense to orchestrate a complicated diversion for the purpose of sneaking the guy across the border to intercept the drug dealer's vehicle.

the corpses were all shrinkwrapped. They definitely started to smell once homeboy pierced the shrinkwrap with the shotgun blast. That was pretty clear to me.

Appreciate the bump! I forgot about this movie already. Nothing stands out about it.

SLOW. And the main chick came off as emo and depressing.
I would not watch again and would not recommend it.
Was absolutely not slow or boring and was one of the best movies of the year. It was tense throughout and the main character did exactly what she was supposed to do which was serve as an analogue for the audience. It was brilliant filmmaking and the score was absolutely second to none.

I suppose I just didn't think that the smell of that many dead bodies could be contained simply with shrink-wrap.
If I am wrong, I am wrong.

100% agree.
I do feel that people missed out if they did watch it in the theater or don't have a good sound system. That score is so dark and it sucks you in.

quote:The way I saw this going down: She reassembles her pistol (smart move on his part, btw), runs to the balcony to shoot him in the back as he's walking away, but he's nowhere to be seen. Pan around from the parking lot back to her face and he's standing behind her, says "I told you not to point a weapon at me again", snaps her neck, then the camera just pulls out from her lifeless body on her balcony and fades to black.
She was warned not to point a gun at him again
5 stars!

The long staredown occurs and as she has her gun pointed at him from the balcony, a cartel sniper who is covering Del Toro takes her out.

He never disassembles the pistol but instead reminds her of what he said about never pointing a gun at him again. He places the gun on the table within her reach, turns his back and walks out. She's conflicted but ultimately scared shitless of being killed if she reaches for the gun. She doesn't pick it up and instead walks out and sees him leaving. He sees her without the gun, tips his hat, and he's gone.
